Terms of Adornment

I am fully aware that by revealing the following statement I risk being shunned from all future social endeavors in which I might wish to partake, but the Internet has a way of embarrassing most people on a daily basis anyways, so here it goes: I like rocks. Always have, always will. When I was younger I had a super rad rock collection and convinced myself that one of my finds was most certainly a fossilized dinosaur egg. It’s oval, duh.

Anyways, now that I’ve established my dork-dom, I can tell you that my passion for hunting for treasure hasn’t changed, only evolved. Lately I’ve been applying myself to the search for beautiful jewels. Needless to say, upon discovering these gems shown here I immediately scooped them up and added them to my collection. How could I not? They combine two of my greatest loves: rocks and a bold necklace. To me, these necklaces are truly wonderful because they seem to be directly inspired by nature considering their stone-like texture and geometric structure - just don't expect to blend in with your surroundings when you wear them.

Side note: these photos were shot on location in the jungle of our very own front yard. We have some seriously wild flowers that attract many passers-by daily. In fact, one woman was so enthusiastic about these beautiful plants that after studying them for a few moments she promptly dug one out of the mulch and carried it away with her, probably to add to her own collection.

Style Profile

The Shoot…

Who: Anna Von Bertrab.

What: Vintage Chanel bag, Michael Kors watch, Michael Kors heels, Forever 21 jumpsuit.

When: The 42nd annual Chicano Park Day.

Where: A pink church, under the Coronado Bridge.

Why: Anna describes her style as “Leandra Medine meets Audrey Hepburn…stepping out of a J. Crew catalogue.” She can’t walk out of the house, let along live without her pearls, but she’s bold enough to rock a one-piece jumpsuit. Yves Saint Laurent would be so proud.

The Scoop…

Dream job: Art critic and editor for the arts or style section of The New York Times.

Plans for next fall: Anna will be attending Columbia University for graduate school.

Favorite artists: William de Kooning, Mark Rothko, and John Baldessari.

Blogs she follows and likes: The Man Repeller, The Sartorialist, Garance Doré, and Atlantic-Pacific.

Favorite city: Madrid.

Hobbies: Ballet; yoga; hiking; her column, “(Anna)stly” in USD’s The Vista; poetry (that no one else can read); and photography.

Disclaimer: Needless to say, I'm obsessed with Anna and had such a blast shooting with her this weekend that I’ve decided to make this only one of several installments featuring her. I'm sure this will a problem for...no one.
